The construction of switched reluctance machines was presented by using simple hoop windings. When the current flows circumferentially around the hoop coils, it drives magnetic flux up one set of rotor teeth, across the air gap and radially up one set of the stator teeth. The machines possessed hoop windings which were enclosed by a magnetic field in which the field was modulated by the saliency of stator teeth.
