Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this research project is to examine the relationship that rural micro-businesses (0-10 employees) and small and medium enterprises (SME’s with 11-250 employees) have with their banks. This work will identify any changes in the nature of these relationships following the reduction in the number of rural bank branches over recent years. It will also highlight if there are differences in the relationship that these different sizes of business experience. We will also review how these relationships have changed as the result of the new customer relationship management (CRM) technology that banks have introduced. The work includes in-depth interviews with both small businesses and banks. This will then lead to a survey of rural small businesses in the north east of England.
