Abstract

This ‘show and tell’ session will introduce delegates to Adobe Connect web-conferencing software as an innovative platform to support students learning at a distance. Adobe Connect is flash-based software used to create information and general presentations, online teaching materials, webinars and user desktop sharing. Each learning session is set up as a ‘meeting’. Within each meeting, separate page layouts can be created in advance of the session so that a variety of activities van be undertaken. There is the facility to have break-out rooms, show powerpoint presentations, share videos or pdfs, create interactive polls, create downloadable resource lists and share your screen. This software has been successfully used to support the delivery of a previously face-to-face post-graduate certificate programme as new e-learning modules, and has received very positive student feedback during pilot and in roll-out. We would seek to demonstrate the flexible ways that this software has been used to enhance the programme using: • Group debates • Individual tutorial support • Assignment launch • Drop-in sessions • Group tutorials • Polls as formative assessment • Collaborative group tasks We would like to share our student feedback regarding the elements they enjoyed and found beneficial to their learning, and our experience as teachers using the software for the first time. We would also like to share our insights of the potential barriers which we have encountered (such as institutional firewalls, requirement for personal microphones, student confidence with technology, consent issues, confidentiality and student anonymity).
