Digital tools for remote conferencing have become deeply embedded in the workplace, allowing colleagues to conduct meetings online. These digital interfaces have evolvedoffering features that could help participants in video-mediated interaction (VMI) a range of possibilities to overcome the limitations of not being in the same physical space. One such innovation has been the ability to share screens and documents, allowing all participants to contribute to text production. However, writing in shared documents also entails doing sowhile others are watching. This study considers how this potentially face-threatening activity is managed in VMI settings where the writers are Second Language (L2) users. Building on previous workplace studies that examine the experiences of employees who report such emotions as language performance anxiety and a sense of status loss when being asked to work in an L2, the findings show how members monitor the writing process, and mitigate for any potential threats to professional identity when the note-taker encounters difficulties with aspects of the writing.
