Abstract

Recent advances in materials research have produced soft magnetic composites that can be considered for use in electrical machines. New machine designs are needed to fully take advantage of this new material. Different concepts of brushless-DC motors using soft magnetic composites are investigated and best choices identified. A prototype of the best design has been built and is presented. It is a ferrite magnet machine showing a quite high specific output at low overall cost. (5 References).
