Abstract

This paper examines the use of a segmented rotor construction in switched reluctance motors. Basic design principles are first established for such a machine and compared to a conventional SRM arrangement. A three phase machine design is then developed. Predicted and measured results are presented for a three phase machine, showing an increase in torque capability of as much as 40% over conventional SRMs. (11 References).
